It’s been a year and some change, but I’m back. I won’t lie to you, 2021 was a rough year for me. In January of 2021, my beagle Oliver got cancer and had to be put to sleep. At the end of the year, my father passed away after a second fight with cancer. Sadly, my dad and I had made plans that would never be fulfilled; seeing the next Indiana Jones movie on the big screen together.

Mario’s Musings (Birthday/Anniversary Edition): Aliens

“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”

That line is one of the many that earned the birthday girl, Sigourney Weaver, an Oscar Nomination for Best Actress in 1987 for her second outing as Ellen Ripley in Aliens. She celebrated her birthday yesterday, born in 1949. To honor her, I figured we could kick off the Halloween season with a sci-fi- horror film.

A League of Their Own: A Game Without Competition

In 1992, actress-turned-director Penny Marshall became the first woman to direct two films to gross over $100 million. The first of those films was Big, a Tom Hanks comedy about a boy who, through carnival magic, is turned into an adult overnight. The second of these films is A League of Their Own. This was not a story based in fantasy but one based on the oft untold story of the AAGPBL, the women’s baseball league that was formed during the years when all of their male counterparts were off fighting in World War II.
