Mario's Musings (Philadelphia Film Festival Edition): Jojo Rabbit
I went to the Philadelphia Film Festival on Saturday to see Jojo Rabbit, directed by Taika Waititi. I love film festivals. Sure, I’m just going to see a movie, but the whole pomp and circumstance surrounding the movie is always a fun time. It’s why I love going to screenings as well, I enjoy seeing movies before the release, and there’s always an added perk on top of that like free merchandise. Plus, there seems to be a sense of community when going to screenings, like we’re all friends rather than a bunch of strangers seeing a movie together.
How to Destroy a Franchise in 107 Minutes or Less: The Predator Review
In 1987, Director John McTiernan introduced audiences around the world to one of the most iconic sci-fi monsters in film history. Armed with a cloaking device, plasma cannon and a razor sharp pair of wrist blades, this ferocious intergalactic bounty hunter single-handedly decimated a highly trained Special Forces unit led by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Mario's Musings: El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
“Look, I like making cherry product, but let’s keep it real, alright? We make poison for people who don’t care. We probably have the most unpicky customers in the world.”
One of my favorite lines from Jesse Pinkman regarding the business he and Walter White got themselves in. Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul showed us the seedy underworld of the drug trade, fried chicken, and lawyers. El Camino is like an epilogue to that whole story, following Jesse Pinkman after the events of Breaking Bad. It wraps the gift of those two shows in one pretty pink bow that we may or may not need.
Mario’s Musings (Halloween Edition): Pet Sematary
“Sometimes dead is better.”
Every piece I’ve written so far has been overly positive. What can I say? I’m easy to please and I like movies, but not ALL the time. Take this garbage heap of a remake for instance, because you’re about to see some hot fire with this one.
